Canada Dry Green Tea

What inspired Canada Dry to go Green Tea?

A "sleeper hit" according to BevIndustry magazine.

A developing trend nowadays is a growing interest in green tea for health benefits and weight loss. Some evidence suggests that those who drink green tea regularly may have lower chances of heart disease, and lower chances of developing certain types of cancer.

The caffeine content of a prepared cup of coffee is significantly higher than the caffeine content of a prepared cup of tea. Green tea contains polyphenols which are thought to improve health, particularly catechins, the most abundant of which is epigallocatechin gallate.

Matcha is a variety of finely powdered Green Tea. Matcha (rubbed tea) is a fine ground tea. Matcha, traditionally used in the tea ceremony is now also a popular flavor of ice cream and other sweets in Japan.
Tea consumption had its origin in China more than 4000 years ago. Green tea has been used as traditional medicine in areas such as China, Japan, India and Thailand to help everything from controlling bleeding and helping heal wounds to regulating body temperature, blood sugar and promoting digestion.

Matcha is a Japanese variety of finely powdered Green Tea, allowing the full benefit of the whole tea leaf instead of seeping just the flavor from a bag.

Increasing in popularity, the benefits of Green Tea are refreshing us here in the United States as well. No longer just an item found in health stores, Green Tea is an ingredient added by beverage bottlers such as Pepsi, Coca-Cola and Canada Dry.

Green Tea provides natural caffeine for energy, antioxidants that fight cancer causing free radicals, and chlorophyll for a powerful blood cleanse.

Coffee concepts and juice bars across North America including Starbucks, Jamba Juice, Coffee Bean & Tea Leaf, Smoothie King, and Booster Juice have recently started selling Matcha Green Tea smoothies, frappes, and lattes, promoting the great taste and health benefits of green tea.

Grocery stores ~ realizing that parents, athletes, students, and others for each their own reasons are no longer willing to be victims of sickness, and are instead taking a proactive step ahead of time by consuming beverages that help fortify the body against getting sick in the first place ~ are lining the shelves with product that have added ingredients such as Green Tea, Calcium, and Vitamin D.

The problem still remaining though is that so many of these beverages on the store shelves have sugars added, or who knows what else? High fructose corn syrup? Sodium Benzoate? Calcium Disodium EDTA?

Care to drink a beverage that has your choice of ingredients instead?

The solution is to get the Matcha powder in that pure powdered form and add it to your own choice of drink.

  • 2 cups of regular green tea has approximately twice the antioxidants of red wine, 7 times that of orange juice and 20 times that of apple juice. Matcha, on a gram per gram basis, has approximately 10 times the polyphenols and antioxidants of regular teas.
  • Matcha Green Tea has approximately 9 times the beta-carotene of spinach, 4 times that of carrots.
  • Matcha Green Tea contains essential vitamins and minerals for a healthy lifestyle.
